bed linen design: frangipani

This great product is proudly designed and made in Australia. The design process - which takes place in my home studio where ever I happen to be, at the moment Europe but normally Bellingen, New South Wales, Australia - takes about 2 months from conception to finished design. First comes a glimmer of an idea, then I gather together different reference material that follow this theme. Inspiration and reference comes from many different places - one always needs to keep an open mind in this regard. I travel quite a bit, going to international trade fairs, High street shops. flea markets, read heaps of magazines and of course the internet is an invaluable tool - I love to be able to see what people are creating half a world away at the touch of a button. So once references have been sourced - these can also include flowers from the garden, you may have noticed I am rather keen on tropical flowers - I then start painting. The designs are handpainted or drawn, depending what effect I am trying to achieve, I might use pencils, pastels, charcoal as well as different painting methods. From there I transfer it to the computer for finalising the layout and playing around with different colours. When finished the artwork is sent to our printers in China where they work their wonders to translate my painting onto a silk screen and match the colours perfectly, this part of the process also takes a few months with sampling to be approved before they do the big print run. The rolls of fabric then get shipped to Australia for the next stage. In Sydney the fabric gets cut and made up into the finished bed linen, packaged and delivered to the retailers. From there they go to the homes of their happy new owners.
